Pedro Giraudo: Big Band & Tango
This weekend, The Jazz Gallery is proud to present bassist and composer Pedro Giraudo in concert with both his Tango Ensemble and Big Band. Hailing from Córdoba, Argentina, Giraudo has been deftly merging jazz and the traditional musics of his homeland for over two decades in New York. He has worked closely with legendary Latin American artists including Rubén Blades and Paquito D'Rivera and released a half-dozen acclaimed albums under his own name, most recently Cuentos with his big band in 2015.Before coming out to see Giraudo's Tango Ensemble on Friday, and his big band on Saturday, enjoy his previous big band set at The Jazz Gallery, featuring compositions both new and old. Bassist Pedro Giraudo plays The Jazz Gallery on Friday, December 1st, and Saturday, December 2nd, 2017. On Friday, Mr. Giraudo will perform with his Tango Ensemble, featuring Jeremias Sergiani Velazquez on violin, Rodolfo Zanetti on bandoneon, Emilio Teubal on piano, Fung Chern Hwei on violin, Michael Davis on viola, Brian Sanders on cello, and special guest vocalist Sofia Tosello. On Saturday Mr. Giraudo will perform with his big band, featuring Alejandro Aviles, Todd Bashore, Luke Batson, John Ellis, and Carl Maraghi on woodwinds;Nathan Eklund, Alejandro Berti, Josh Deutsch, and Nicole Davis on trumpets; Ryan Keberle, Mike Fahie, Stafford Hunter, and Max Siegel on trombones; Jess Jurkovic on piano; Franco Pinna on drums; and special guest vocalist Sofia Tosello.
