The Jazz Gallery Presents: Alfredo Colon
This week, saxophonist Alfredo Colon returns to The Jazz Gallery stage with his quartet. This past fall, Colon presented a new evening-length project Blood Burden at Roulette. The piece explores the relationship between Dominican folkloric practices and the devastating legacy of Spanish colonization, taking its main inspiration from the Diablo Cojuelo, or limping devil—one of the most popular costumes present during the celebration of Carnival in the Dominican Republic.
Next month, Colon and his working quartet will head into the studio to record this music for their debut album. Don’t miss Colon and company play this searing music live at The Jazz Gallery, with a set designed by Tropidarks.
The Alfredo Colon Quartet plays The Jazz Gallery on Thursday, March 2, 2023. The group features Mr. Colon on saxophone & EWI, Theo Walentiny on keyboards, Steve Williams on bass, and Kobi Abcede on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.S.T. $20 general admission (FREE for members), $30 reserved cabaret seating ($20 for members), $20 for livestream access (FREE for members). Purchase tickets here.
