The Jazz Gallery Presents: Chris Morrissey

Back in 2014, bassist Chris Morrissey received a Jazz Gallery Residency Commission. The commission led to a new band, Standard Candle, where Morrissey deftly merged rock atmospheres, spacious improvisation, and erudite lyrics. Since then, Morrissey has continued to explore this aesthetic space across multiple ensembles.

This spring, Morrissey released Grey Like The Color on Michael League’s GroundUp label. The album’s title (and title track) come from Morrissey’s close friend and collaborator Grey McMurray, who’s repeated that phrase at many of coffee shop. The album features eight new originals by Morrissey sung by him, Charlotte Greve, Emma Frank, and Joan Wasser. Check out the record’s opening track, “Northstar,” with Morrissey on lead vocals

This week, Morrissey returns to The Jazz Gallery stage with the band from Grey to celebrate the release of a new B-side single, “The Watchung Taylors.”
