The Jazz Gallery Presents: Jaleel Shaw
This weekend, The Jazz Gallery is thrilled to welcome alto saxophonist Jaleel Shaw back to our stage for two evenings of performances. Shaw has been part of the Gallery family for many years and continues to be actively involved with our mission to present the future of jazz. In 2014, Shaw was the inaugural mentor for The Jazz Gallery's mentorship series, working with rising-star flautist and vocalist Elena Pinderhughes. As a longtime member of drummer Roy Haynes's Fountain of Youth Band, Shaw has a direct musical lineage back to the bebop era, a lineage that he has built on through his work as both a leader and sideman.Recently, Shaw has been touring with drummer Jaimeo Brown's acclaimed "Transcendence" project, bassist Buster Williams, and trumpeter Tom Harrell. As a leader, Shaw put out a collaborative track with rapper Dres of the duo Black Sheep earlier this year. Check out the evocative video from the project below. At the Gallery this weekend, Shaw will convene a high-octane postbop quartet featuring standout young talents, including bassist Linda Oh, pianist James Francies, and drummers Joe Dyson and Justin Brown. Don't miss this opportunity to see one of today's standout saxophonists settle in to his old home base.Saxophonist Jaleel Shaw plays The Jazz Gallery on Friday, November 4th, and Saturday, November 5th, 2016. Mr. Shaw will be joined by James Franicies on piano, Linda Oh on bass, and Joe Dyson (November 4th) & Justin Brown (November 5th) on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. each night. $25 general admission ($12 for members) for each set. Purchase tickets here.
