The Jazz Gallery Presents: Jaleel Shaw

This Saturday, April 16, saxophonist Jaleel Shaw returns to The Jazz Gallery stage. Shaw has convened a special intergenerational trio featuring bassist Matt Brewer and drummer Victor Lewis. While this is Shaw’s first appearance as a leader at the Gallery since 2019, he’s continued to have a deep presence here. This past year, Shaw has toured with The Jazz Gallery All-Stars…

…reflected on Charlie Parker’s enduring influence at the Gallery’s Bird Listening Party…

…and celebrated saxophonist Benny Golson’s lifetime achievement award alongside today’s top tenors.

This past August, Shaw released a solo saxophone album Echoes, featuring a series of solo reflections on the likes of Lee Konitz, MF Doom, and Tulsa’s Black Wall Street. Recorded at home during the height of the pandemic, the echoes are both literal and metaphorical—the bright, early reflections that come from recording in a bedroom give Shaw’s ruminations an uncanny immediacy.

The Jaleel Shaw Trio plays The Jazz Gallery on Saturday, April 16, 2022. The group features Mr. Shaw on saxophone, Matt Brewer on bass, and Victor Lewis on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.D.T. $25 general admission ($10 for members), $35 reserved table seating ($20 for members), $20 for livestream access ($5 for members) for each set. Purchase tickets here.
