The Jazz Gallery Presents: Jonathan Finlayson's Sicilian Defense

With recent performances & recording sessions with the likes of Steve Lehman and Nicole Mitchell, plus an upcoming tour with Steve Coleman & Five Elements, it’s remarkable that busy trumpeter Jonathan Finlayson is able to convene his longtime band Sicilian Defense for an evening of music at The Jazz Gallery this weekend. The band has two albums of material to draw from, including 2017’s Moving Still (Pi Recordings), which you can check out below.

However, it is quite likely that the band has new material to explore as well. With improvisers like Miles Okazaki, Matt Mitchell, John Hébert, and Craig Weinrib, the music on Saturday will be anything but safe and predictable.

The group features Mr. Finlayson on trumpet, Miles Okazaki on guitar, Matt Mitchell on piano, John Hébert on bass, and Craig Weinrib on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M.
