The Jazz Gallery Presents: Justin Brown Quartet

This Friday, April 6, The Jazz Gallery welcomes drummer Justin Brown and his quartet back to our stage. Recently, Brown has been crisscrossing the world on tour with the likes of Flying Lotus and Thundercat, while putting the finishing touches on his long-awaited album with NYEUSI. This December, Brown sat down for an in-depth interview with Modern Drummer magazine, where he discussed the myriad influences that have gone into NYEUSI. Brown emphasized the importance of getting inside different styles before fusing them together:

With all the music I play, I always want to learn its history. When I studied rock music, I lived with those musicians. Same thing with hip-hop—I went to the clubs and spoke with the producers, asking questions and living that lifestyle. Once you learn how to live each genre of music, it’s easier to understand it and tell your story.

For his show at the Gallery this week, Brown will be joined by keyboardist Fabian Almazan, guitarist Charles Altura, and bassist Evan Marien. Before coming to the show, check out Brown and NYEUSI throwing down in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPimc6qxL5Q
