The Jazz Gallery Presents: Kalia Vandever's "Regrowth"

This weekend, trombonist Kalia Vandever celebrates the release of her latest album, Regrowth (New Amsterdam), at The Jazz Gallery. As the title implies, the music delves into notions of both rootedness and transition, leading to original compositions that merge opposing ideas. In “Pick it Up “And Drop it Again)”—the album’s lead single—an unwavering quintuple groove gradually lurches and stumbles toward its peaty core.

For the Gallery release party, Vandever will be joined by many of her album collaborators, including saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, guitarist Lee Meadvin, and drummer Connor Parks. As each composition is built for “regrowth” by design, who knows what novel sounds will bloom in live performance.

The Jazz Gallery presents the Kalia Vandever Quintet on Saturday, May 7, 2022. The group features Ms. Vandever on trombone, Immanuel Wilkins on alto saxophone, Lee Meadvin on guitar, Tyron Allen on bass, and Connor Parks on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.D.T. $25 general admission ($10 for members), $35 reserved cabaret seating ($20 for members), $20 livestream access ($5 for members) for each set. Purchase tickets here.
