The Jazz Gallery Presents: Matt Mitchell's Oblong Aplomb

This month, pianist Matt Mitchell released his latest record, a double album of piano-drum duos entitled Oblong Aplomb. With Kate Gentile on side A and Ches Smith on side B, Mitchell continues to explore the playful rhythmic games he’s become known for—surprise accelerations and hard brakes, uneven beats, polyrhythms that resolve in curiously satisfying ways.

On Friday, Mitchell returns to The Jazz Gallery with both Gentile and Smith to celebrate the album’s release and find new colors across the 24 compositions. Before coming out to the Gallery, try a sampling of these duets below.
