The Jazz Gallery Presents: TALAMANTI

This Thursday, The Jazz Gallery welcomes TALAMANTI, a duo project from vibraphonist Patricia Brennan featuring pianist Sylvie Courvoisier. The name comes from an indigenous Mexican word meaning two objects that can be both very similar and total opposites. It’s an apt metaphor for the combination of vibraphone and piano. At their core, both instruments are struck lengths of metal, but the resulting sounds can be quite different—the earthy resonance of the piano’s low end versus the brittle sheen of the vibraphone’s attack.

The duo made their debut this past December as part of Brennan’s residency at Roulette, which you can check out below. They’ve compiled a book of new compositions reflecting many influences and an interest in sharp layers of color.

Don’t miss their performance at the Gallery as Brennan and Courvoisier prepare to document this music in the studio.

TALAMANTI plays The Jazz Gallery on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The group features Patrician Brennan on vibraphone and Sylvie Courvoisier on piano. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.D.T. $25 general admission ($15 for members), $35 reserved cabaret seating ($20 for members), $20 livestream access ($5 for members) for each set. Purchase tickets here.
