The Jazz Gallery Presents: The Cal State Northridge Combos
This coming weekend, Jazz at Lincoln Center is hosting the first ever Jack Rudin Jazz Championship. The competition features 10 acclaimed college jazz bands from across the country performing in both big band and combo configurations. But before taking the stage uptown this weekend, the combos from California State University, Northridge will perform a special concert at The Jazz Gallery on Tuesday evening with special guest (and SoCal native) Ben Wendel.To get a sense of what the talented Northridge students can do, watch their big band take on Chris Potter's knotty and athletic "New Year's Day," below.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ1pcRFo5A8 The California State University, Northridge jazz combos play The Jazz Gallery on Tuesday, January 14, 2019. The first combo features Nathan Serot on trumpet, Jeremy Stein on tenor saxophone, Keelan Walters on guitar, Amanda Hamilton on piano, Rob Felix on bass, and Myles Martin on drums. The second combo features Jay Nelson on alto saxophone, Kosta Kutay on tenor saxophone, Max Fourmy on trombone, Jacob Abinante on piano, Vincent Islas on guitar, Jermaine Paul on bass, and Travis Hunter on drums. Both groups will be joined by special guest Ben Wendel on tenor saxophone. One set at 7:30 P.M. $15 general admission (FREE for members), $20 reserved table seating ($10 for members).
