The Jazz Gallery Presents: Victor Gould Trio

Album art courtesy of the artist.

As jazz venues gingerly opened for live performance last spring, pianist Victor Gould hit the ground running. In May 2021, Gould premiered his Chamber Music America-commissioned Unity Suite at Smalls, followed by a performance a the newly-reopened Jazz Gallery in June. September marked the release of In Our Time, Gould’s newest record showcasing his working trio on a set of deeply-personal original compositions.

Many of the tunes on In Our Time find Gould taking stock, remembering lost loved ones and expressing gratitude for their impact on Gould’s live. “Lord Wallace,” which you can check out below, is a tribute to trumpeter Wallace Roney, who hired Gould right when he first moved to New York.

This Friday, April 16, Gould returns to The Jazz Gallery with bassist Tamir Shmerling and drummer Anwar Marshall to perform music from In Our Time.
