Watch: Jerome Sabbagh - "Comptine"

Nate Chinen sums up the direction of saxophonist Jerome Sabbagh best in The New York Times: "Mr. Sabbagh avoided direct allusions to the saxophone totems. What he is working toward, simply and effectively, is a sincerely personal vocabulary."Born in Paris, Jerome moved to New York in 1995. Since then, he's recorded five albums under his own name, the most recent being the forthcoming Plugged In (Bee Jazz), featuring Jozef Dumoulin, Patrice Blanchard, and Rudy Royston. Jerome has also been spotted regularly on the bandstand with other esteemed artists, including the late, great Paul Motian, who brought a new trio featuring Jerome and guitarist Ben Monder to The Village Vanguard for some of his final performances last fall.Jerome first performed here as a leader in 2007, and we are pleased to present his new trio with pianist Danny Grissett and drummer Obed Calvaire this Saturday. Jerome and Danny have been performing own original music together for over a year, and this trio performance will represent an extension of that work.Watch Jerome lead another trio, featuring the guitarist Ben Monder and the drummer Daniel Humair, through the improvisation "Comptine".
